Earlier this year our team here at Masjid ar-Rahmah (Mosque of Mercy) joined forces with Islamic Relief to send funds to support our Rohingya brothers and sisters.
Of course, our organization was not the only one to send financial support to the region. We also teamed up with local Muslim organizations including the Ottawa Muslim Association (OMA) and Assalam Mosque and Islamic Centre for a joint fundraising campaign.
The Canadian government is also stepping up its humanitarian efforts. Just two days ago the government launched the Myanmar Crisis Relief Fund. Here is an important snippet from their website:
For every eligible donation made by individuals to registered Canadian charities between August 25 and November 28, 2017, the Government of Canada will contribute an equivalent amount to the Myanmar Crisis Relief Fund. In addition, through the Myanmar Crisis Relief Fund, Canada will continue to address the needs of women and girls through gender-sensitive program design and the prioritization of services to the extremely vulnerable, including pregnant women, single mothers and women-headed households.
We call upon each and every individual to continue to send their prayers and their financial support to our fellow Muslims in need.
