What Does Tawbah Mean?
Tawbah is to seek repentance and forgiveness from Allah after committing sins. Islam teaches that repentance is a direct matter between a person and God, as there is no intercessor.
Unlike Christianity, there is no original sin in Islam. Every person is solely responsible and will be held accountable for their own sins. Muslims are instructed to constantly seek repentance when they commit a sin, and to follow up a bad deed with a good deed.
Allah says in the Qur’an:
Indeed, Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves.”
