What Does Niyyah Mean?
DEFINITION
Niyyah is an Arabic word meaning purpose or intention. It is a core principle of Islamic faith and is the foundation to every act of worship a Muslim performs.
The niyyah of a person is the reason and intent behind their action. In order for a good deed to be accepted by Allah, the niyyah must be pure and free from any impure intention, such as showing off.
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) has said “Actions are (judged) by motives (niyyah), so each man will have what he intended.”
