What Does Kufr Mean?
DEFINITION
Kufr is an Arabic word meaning to conceal, cover, or hide away. The significance of this word in Islam is that it describes the act of concealing the truth about Allah and disbelieving in Him (that He is One, our only supreme creator, and the only one deserving of our worship and devotion).
A person who doesn’t believe in the truth of Islam is engaging the practice of Kufr and referred to as a Kaafir. This can be simply translated as a disbeliever or non-believer.
Kufr refers to disbelief in any of the teachings of Islam.
