What Does Dua Mean?

DEFINITION
Dua refers to calling out to Allah; it is an invocation. Muslims are encouraged to supplicate (ie. call out) to Allah to ask for any matter in life. This means dua should be done in times of goodness and in times of hardship, in the daily prayers and outside of the daily prayers, and and for anything we need in our lives no matter how trivial it may be.
Muslims regard this as a profound act of worship. Muhammad (pbuh) is reported to have said, "Dua is the very essence of worship." There are many different duas a Muslim can make such as:
- Forgiveness
- Increased sustenance
- Improved health
- To get married
- To have children
- To excel in school
- To land a new job
- Etc.
A Muslim can make dua for anything so long as it is good and halal.
