What Does Adhan Mean?

DEFINITION

The adhan is known as the Islamic call to prayer. It is said in Arabic and is a means for Muslims to know when the time for one of the 5 daily prayers has arrived. The person who makes the adhan is known as the muadhin.

Here are the words for the adhan:

Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest)

Ash-hadu ala ilaha illallah (I bear witness that there is no God but Allah)
